All of the fine details, should be shared

Another Day in Paradise I wonder to: How many times through the real estate, friends or family have I seen all of the details of a families paperwork handled by one and only one person in the household? Taxes, household accounting such as bill payments or record keeping, loans, budgets, family documents such as Health Powers of Attorney, or Wills all handle by one person either a Mom or Dad. It usually starts due to a couple learning each others temperaments for paperwork, one being a fuzzy and one being detailed orientated, one sheltering the other from the concerns and worry that go with the territory unless a silver spoon has been acquired by them. Oh the hidden dangers here, a day comes when the main paper monger is no longer on planet earth, and a person not knowing jack shit about how their household ran must jump into the middle of stacks of paperwork and learn how to swim in it. It is hard enough to be a grieving widow or widower, but it is excruciatingly painful to have this necessary battle to wage on top of the grief. My sister and I using some of our father in laws humor call it "A Learning Curve". She is learning how to swim through the papers, she grieving and learning and determined to do him proud. My husband and I try to help her where we can with explanations on all of the aspects one encounters, one category at a time. And we do all agree taxes suck. Documentations required suck. Painful questions and explanations suck. But we are slowly tunneling through the accountants questions. In my lines of work I have encountered people, they call in and they don't understand Insurances, Pensions, 401K's, they don't understand Real Estate Matters, they don't know how they hold title to their own property, they haven't made Wills or Health Powers of Attorney, 'THEY'VE NEVER WANTED TO THINK ABOUT IT', and boom one day their significant other is here, and they next day they're parish from the Earth, and here is this person alone without prior knowledge of his or her life details. Decisions need to be made, they don't even know where their own paperwork is kept within their own house. My own hubby, and also one of my best friends hubby, same quote:"If it's not on the kitchen table (hers was the dining room table) I'm not going to look for it" So what do we do? Do we leave our important documents, passwords, account info out for someone who has this type of attitude? My humorist side says "Yes". None involved members of a household in America: Please tune into your life details, easier to learn slowly, than to crash course.
